Shop Fox W1740 Review: SHOP FOX W1740 12-Inch Drum Sander. The sander worked great while it worked. After a bit, the drive motor stripped the PLASTIC gear inside. That part is no longer available. There is an upgrade for $256. All it is, is a larger motor but still with plastic gears.( can't just replace the gears). They are making the machines different now but the upgrade does not convert the previous model to the current model. Therefore, I have a $700 boat anchor. No solution from the company.
